Paint Flowers with Simple Strokes

It is no secret that my favorite subject to paint is flowers

Today I want to show you how to paint

simple rose type flowers effectively

with just a few strokes

Look closely at the round

shaped flowers in the photo above

When you break the blooms down,

they are really just a group of petals in a circle

Anyone can do this!

Easter Garden

The secret is using several tones and similar colors

With watercolor, start with the lightest areas first

and when they’re dry, continue adding darker tones

In the close up below, painted with acrylic,

the rose has a red edge, topped with pink,

then smaller curved strokes of orange and white

More srokes were added and below

is the finished painting, Pink Flower Therapy

In the painting below, Lidy’s Flowers,

the strokes making the yellow and orange blooms

are quite evident

A hand painted card is extra special

Just a few strokes and you’re done!

Thank You Cards

Use this technique to transform a bottle

For these blooms I loaded my brush

with red, pink, and white,

so the colors would randomly blend

The faux bloom in the vase

mimics the blooms on the Bottle Vase

In the blooms below you can see the many strokes

used to build up the flowers

Casual Bouquet

Have some flower fun and try this!

If you do one you like, send me a photo and I’ll share it

on the blog for inspiration!!

So charming Jenna…lucky you if you don’t have real blooms…you just make your own. Lovely…blessings my friend. 🙏🏻❤️🌸

The way you break it down, I think that even I could do this 😉 I love your paintings of flowers, they are beautiful!
    Happy Weekend, Jenna!

    Okay==going to combine 2 entries:
First–fall is coming?!! Oh, no. I really love fall, but every year it seems to sneak up on me faster and faster. But you did cheer me up with the beautiful roses. You are our inspiration with your talent. BTW, roses and sunflowers are 2 of my favorite flowers. I will hold out till “the last rose of summer.” (Don’t know if you ever include youtube clips due to laws, etc. but I am including a rendition of “The Last Rose of Summer” for you at least, edit this out before posting if you need to:

And the sunflowers, well, they welcome in my favorite season–Fall! That means leaves that crunch, and haunting gusts of wind that end up being the precursors to winter–but I am an optimist–in both fall and winter we can find solace in S’MORES! : ) Thanks for the lovely flowers! Georgia Gal

You do it so effortlessly. They are all so beautiful. All of your painted blooms make me smile. Happy Weekend! 💐

  7. As always, Jenna, your instructions are clear and motivating, too! (I will also say it takes a lot of “comma practice” to come anywhere close to you!) Every image you shared is glorious and happy!

  8. You’re inspiring me to unlock my inner artist – simply lovely!

  9. Kim says:

They are all beautiful Jenna – you are so talented! I love the ones where there is extra paint on the petals (I’m sure there is a proper name for the technique) and it adds a wonderful texture. Or at least that is what is looks like to me. ! Lidy’s Flowers are gorgeous. Happy Monday Jenna!

    • Thanks so much Kim! Where you see texture is an acrylic painting. Acrylics are my favorite medium because of the wonderful textures you can create, plus you can paint over anything you don’t like and change it 😂
