Recipe Box, Red White & Blueberry Cheese Danish

It’s fun to add red white & blue to your summer menu
Trying to come up with something festive but easy over Memorial Day weekend I turned to one of my best kitchen helpers, Pillsbury
After surfing through recipes on Pinterest I borrowed a little of this and a little of that and created this easy peasy danish ring
Using spreadable cream cheese and a crescent roll dough sheet made quick work of this cheese danish
Many recipes called for beating the cream cheese with sugar in a bowl, but I simply spread the cheese over the dough and sprinkled the sugar evenly over the top of cheese layer
If you want a lot of creamy cheese filling make your cheese layer even thicker
Skip the sugar altogether if you prefer, the fruit itself will provide sweetness
I used red raspberry jam for the next layer, but you can use sliced strawberries or raspberries instead
Blueberries of course~ is there anything better than a baked sweet blueberry?
Carefully roll up
And form dough log into a ring, pinching ends together and cutting slits around the top of dough
Brush it with beaten egg before baking if you want a shiny result
I added red sprinkles for an extra touch of festive
and a simple powdered sugar glaze
Serve for breakfast, brunch, or dessert with a little ice cream

Red White & Blueberry Cheese Danish Ring
Ingredients
Danish Ring
- 1 can crescent roll sheet or rolls
- 4 oz. cream cheese spread or softened cream cheese
- 2 T white sugar optional
- 1/2 cup raspberry or strawberry jam {or 1 cup fresh strawberries sliced or raspberries}
- 1 – 1 1/2 cups blueberries washed and cleaned
- sprinkles optional
Sugar Glaze
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 2-4 T milk
Instructions
Danish Ring
- Unroll dough sheet onto parchment paper, and pinch perforations to seal dough if using crescent roll dough.
- Spread cream cheese evenly over dough to desired thickness.
- Sprinkle sugar over cream cheese.
- Top with a layer of jam or red berries. Add blueberries.
- From long edge of dough, carefully roll into a log, as tightly as possible, pushing berries in as you go.
- Form dough log into ring and pinch edges together tightly.
- Cut slits about 1 inch apart around the top of ring. Brush with beaten egg for a glossy finish if desired.
- Transfer parchment to a baking sheet.
- Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes or until dough has cooked through and turned golden.
- Garnish with sprinkles and drizzle/pour sugar glaze over baked ring.
Sugar Glaze
- Add milk to sugar 1 T at a time, combining well until smooth, adding more milk to reach desired glaze consistency
