A little update from the coast…
So far the tarps on the roof are still in place
and the house is fine and dry inside
{Please Eta, fizzle out and fade away!!!}
We were very concerned when we were in the path of Hurricane Zeta,
but all she did was toss one of the big blue chairs around
and dump palm fronds in the pool
I haven’t been back since Hurricane Sally wrecked havoc in our area,
but the city has picked up all the debris lining the roads,
and things are getting back to normal…
Except for views like this…
Almost all the piers near our house are gone,
so it will be hard to look out and see no boats and dock activity,
but we’re working on it!
We have 2 possible pier builders and roofers
and are hoping to get the repairs and rebuilding started
in the next few weeks
So, in the meantime,
I am keeping things bright and cheery in the city
On Halloween day, CC and Charlie Brown dropped by,
they had just come from CCOG’s house {CC’s other Grandmother}
and she treated them with caramel apples
Charlie Brown gave them 2 thumb’s up!!
Inside I’ve been transitioning from early fall and Halloween
to Thanksgiving
I had to make a Thanksgiving tiered tray!
The bar is decked out with velvet pumpkins and Thanksgiving glasses
As far as Christmas goes,
decorations never go up until after Thanksgiving…
I like to enjoy late fall colors and the quiet of November
before the chaos of December
There is still plenty of time to play with pumpkins
and set fall tables
And Be Thankful!
I have been placing pilgrims around
And playing with a turkey or 3
Are you cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year?
We are going to have a non traditional Thanksgiving
HHjr, DD and family, and I are going to the beach house
We will have lots of appetizers and finger food all weekend long,
that we can enjoy while we’re watching football and playing in the sand…

Jenna, those appetizers sound like a winning menu to me! Your city home looks great. I love the foyer table how it’s set. Hopefully your beach property construction will be well underway (at least the roof, right?) before Thanksgiving. Even still, I know you’ll be thankful just to be able to [hopefully] breathe a sigh of relief with another hurricane season ending.

It’s beautiful, Jenna. All the warm, cheerful details that make your home a holiday haven. I’m with you on no Christmas till TG is over. But the day after? Bring it on!
It gives me great joy to see that Zeta was as kind as a storm could be to you and that all is still well. This season will be over soon and I know you’ll breathe a huge sigh of relief. It would be a good time to be a dock-and-pier expert in the south. I hope you can get that and your roof done soon.
Those appetizers look good. Just the two of us this year. I still haven’t made a single plan!
Thank you Jeanie, I can picture you and Rick whipping up a small feast for the two of you together! Yes, hopefully Zeta will fizzle and not cause damage to western Florida, it is time for hurricanes to end!
Yum, those recipes looks scrumptious! I got out the pilgrims and turkeys for November this past weekend. I’m with you, Christmas doesn’t go up until after Thanksgiving. I know this year won’t be as busy, as all the celebrations and parties with clubs have been canceled. Actually, I am hoping it will not be depressing. I really enjoy the hustle and bustle of the season, but we won’t have that this year.

Everything looks gorgeous as always at your place. I love the photos of the kids. Hope and pray Eta stays far away. As of right now it looks like it will hit very close to my area in Florida, hope it goes away from us too. For Thanksgiving it will just be my immediate family and still social distancing outdoors. I think I’m just going to get some platters and leave it at that for this year.

Your home looks charming, and the appetizers divine! The cranberry and Gorgonzola spirals are of particular interest (as is the plate beneath them).

So glad you have a reasonable plan to erase the effects of this hurricane season on your beach house. I know you’ll be happy to have things back to normal. Thanksgiving in our home will go from our usual 20 to just 3. Not going to cook: will bring in a small “feast” from our nearby Trader Joe’s. My heart is so sad that the family cannot gather right now. Schedules are so busy that the holidays are usually our only chance to connect with each other. I’m hoping the pandemic will pass SOON so we can reschedule our family time ASAP!! How about Christmas in July?! Enjoy your planned Thanksgiving: sounds like fun.
oh Rosie, I’m so sorry your gathering has been diminished…I am nervous about our traditional Christmas Eve gathering of 24…I think I’ll just ask everyone to wear masks and hope for a nice day so we can be outside! This year has just been one bad thing after another, here’s to 2021 and Christmas in July!
Jenna, so glad the tarps are holding. I am so sorry you have experienced damage. it must be frustrating. Your menu sounds fabulous. You are such a great cook with lots of goodies. Love the decor and the food is amazing. Good riddance to those awful hurricanes.
Thank you Linda, handling repairs from a distance isn’t easy, but luckily my son, who is a contractor himself, has been doing a lot of the communication and is a huge help. Good riddance to hurricanes is right! I am looking forward to having a long Thanksgiving weekend with my family and just relaxing…

Hope your repairs get under way… I am suppose to get a new roof put on the LakeHouse by Dec. 31st. ??? Who knows!

I am looking at your Cranberry White Chocolate ice cream… could be a delightful side along with pumpkin pie and pecan pie.

You are so welcome Nancy! The cranberry ice cream is not only delicious, but easy on the cook, and can be made ahead. I’m glad you are getting to have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, who cares what day it happens! Yes, dear Santa, please bring me a new roof for Christmas!!

Oh, Jenna, I hope the repairs on your beach house go both quickly and smoothly! I know how much I — virtually — enjoy spending time there. I’m with you on delaying decorating for Christmas until December. I like my holidays one at a time.

I love all of your Thanksgiving/fall decorations. I was thinking I would miss the traditional Thanksgiving feast–until I saw all your delicious looking snacks and treats. I don’t think you’ll miss a thing! (And there’s always Christmas!)

Thank goodness hurricane season is almost over! Your house looks beautiful decorated, and your menu sounds amazing! No Fa La La here until Thanksgiving is over. We are enjoying every minute of the beautiful fall weather that New York is experiencing. Although we did hang the outdoor Christmas lights in the backyard on a 70 degree evening so we don’t freeze our little fingers off in December. Have a great week Jenna.

Thank you for the update on your beach house, Jenna. You always look on the bright side, and before long, all the repairs will be done. You’re city home is looking all beautiful in Thanksgiving decor. I’m enjoying the Fall quiet, too, before Christmas. Orange is not a favorite color, but I embrace it in Fall. Your food choices for Thanksgiving will be easy and fun!

Glad your tarps are holding and you’re staying nice and dry! I know you’re beyond ready to have repairs taken care of and your dock and boat back in place. I just watching the weather and saw the cone of uncertainty of Eta’s path has shifted west into the Gulf. It’s likely to be a very wet week for us. This 2020 hurricane season needs to come to an end already. Your nontraditional Thanksgiving and menu sounds delightful. I know everyone will enjoy getting back to the coast. ♥
Thank you Mary, that crazy hurricane Eta is really nutty, I swear there has never been a more unpredictable storm path, fingers crossed it fizzles out before it can do anymore damage…not excited about currently being in the path!! It seems like everything is “non traditonal” this year, so we’re just keeping up with the trend I guess, I would just like a quiet weekend with my family and no worries!
Jenna, the fall and Thanksgiving decor looks lovely, and I adore those pumpkin salad plates! So pretty. And your appies look delicious – every single one of them! My mouth is watering lol. I am so glad to hear that things are slowly returning to normal on the coast. And yes, good riddance to a brutal hurricane season – like people needed that on top of Covid? I hope that Eta does the decent thing and just fades away – fingers crossed for you…
hi Kim, thanks so much! Yes, I am breathing a sigh of relief this morning as fickle Eta has once again changed her course after us being right in her target area yesterday! However, I don’t wish a hurricane on anyone, and hope it causes minimal damage to our neighbors in Florida. I know in Canada Thanksgiving has come and gone, but I am milking every minute of it for as long as I can! Thanks for stopping by!
